Access to Infrastructures

A call for proposals for Small-Angle X-ray Scattering and Macromolecular Crystallography proposals is open since 9th January 2012. To submit a proposal, please proceed via the links Macromolecular Crystallography / Small Angle X-Ray Scattering 2012 on the left.

Data stored in the 'old' EMBL Virtual User Office remain accessible through the links Macromolecular Crystallography until 2011 and Small Angle X-ray Scattering until 2011. Please not that, with the old Virtual User Office, no new user can be registered and no new proposal can be submitted.

EMBL Hamburg offers facilities for experiments in structural biology using synchrotron radiation and high-throughput crystallisation.

EMBL currently operates synchrotron radiation beamlines at the DORIS and PETRA III storage rings at DESY. These beamlines are used for applications in macromolecular crystallography and small angle scattering of biological samples in solution. Our facilities are used by more than 300 visiting research groups for about 400 projects annually. They are available to all research groups, and the access is prioritised on scientific grounds only. Project proposals for beamline access are evaluated by an international project evaluation committee.

EMBL Hamburg also operates a fully automated platform for the high-throughput crystallisation of biological macromolecules in order to address a common bottleneck in x-ray crystallography. The services of this facility are available to the general user community.
