EMBL Hamburg offers facilities for experiments in structural biology using synchrotron radiation and high-throughput crystallisation.
EMBL currently operates six synchrotron radiation beamlines at the DORIS storage ring from DESY. These beamlines are used for applications in biocrystallography and small angle scattering of biological samples in solution. Our facilities are used by more than 170 visiting research groups for about 450 projects annually. They are available to all research groups, and the access is prioritised on scientific grounds only. Project proposals for beamline access are evaluated by an international priorities committee.
EMBL Hamburg also operates a fully automated platform for the high-throughput crystallisation of biological macromolecules in order to address a common bottleneck in x-ray crystallography. The services of this facility are available to the general user community.
