Booking accommodation

The EMBL Hamburg secretariat can arrange accommodation, ideally at the DESY guesthouse or at a local hotel.

You will be asked to pay your guesthouse / hotel bill before leaving Hamburg.

Guesthouse: Check out time is 10:30. You will be charged for an extra night if you do not return your key on time, unless notification has been given in advance to the Hostel Office.

Bills may be paid in cash (Euro), at the DESY Kasse (Building 6) or per money transfer (German Banking System). Payment with credit card is also possible.

Access to the wet lab

The User lab (ground floor at DORIS) is freely accessible for beamline users. There you find microscopes, refrigerator, pipettes and pipette tips. Liquid nitrogen for experiments is also provided by the EMBL.

Additional wetlab based needs can be met at the integrated sample preparation and characterization (SPC) facility (building 48e, ground floor), which provides chemicals, DSL spectrometer, FPLC system among others. For access, email spc@embl-hamburg.de (with a copy to the beamline local contact) 14 days in advance.

Sample holders and special equipment

Some standard Enraf-Nonius goniometer heads and keys can be provided. However, you are strongly advised to bring your own. Note that the beamline X12 is equipped with a MAR-dtb and so external goniometer head can be monted.

In the case of crystal freezing, suitable conditions should be established before your visit to EMBL. Please bring your own solutions, loops for mounting crystals, etc. Some special arrangements may be made for visitors who have no cryogenic facilities in their own laboratories.

Sending your samples

Most of our external users send their crystals in advance using international express delivery services (DHL, TNT, FedEx or similar).
