Available equipment and wetlab access

Major biochemical and biophysical equipment (centrifuge, balance, syringes, pipettes, Nanodrop spectrophotometer, refractometer, fridge, eppendorf tubes etc) is available at the X33 beamline. Additional wetlab based needs can be met at the integrated sample preparation and characterization (SPC) facility (building 48e, ground floor) which provides chemicals, DLS spectrometer, FPLC system. If access to the SPC facility is required, an email to spc@embl-hamburg.de with a copy to the local assigned contact must be sent at least 14 days in advance.

Special sample environment

The sample holders for the vacuum and in-air setup are thermostatted (typical temperature range 0-60°C). If you need special sample stages you should contact the beamline staff before beam time allocation.

Sending your samples

If you do not bring your samples with you - be sure to send them well in advance. Even with courier service (FedEx, DHL, TNT, UPS, etc) allow a week for the samples to arrive.

Send frozen samples only on Monday or Tuesday to ensure delivery before Saturday and put sufficient amount of dry ice. Note that the samples will be stored exactly according to your instructions upon arrival – write them clearly and label the samples.
