Sample Preparation and Characterisation

The integrated sample preparation and characterization (SPC) facility is located next to the PETRA beamlines. The facility aims to become an open platform to analyse and optimize samples that are prepared for structural studies. This requires very pure samples at high concentrations, which can often lead to aggregation. The facility couples quality control with optimization to accompany crystallisation trails and SAXS measurements. In addition it is possible to book biophysical equipment to perform complementary experiments on the protein samples.

The ultimate goal is to create a pipeline from bench to beamline, where users can enter with cell lysate and optimise their samples on the way to a successful structural characterisation of their system of interest.
