EICAT, EMBL's International Centre for Advanced Training, is devoted to excellence in training at all stages of careers in the life sciences. It promotes advanced training activities between the six EMBL sites, between EMBL and its sister institution EMBO, as well as between the Laboratory and research organisations in the EMBL member states.

While EMBL’s Internal Training activities focus on its International PhD, Postdoctoral and Collaborative Training Programmes, the External Training section is largely dedicated to the Visitor and Courses and Conferences Programmes.

In addition, EICAT collaborates with EMBL's General Training and Development and Science and Society Programmes as well as with the European Learning Laboratory for the Life Sciences (ELLS).
