Training
EMBL Hamburg offers an unique research environment for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. Students interested to carry out their PhD at EMBL Hamburg should apply to the EMBL International PhD Programme. Postdoctoral fellows are invited to visit our web pages and directly apply to the research groups they would like to join.
In addition, EMBL Hamburg provides advanced training, complementing our synchrotron radiation beam line facilities and protein production facilities. Training is offered by a series of advanced training courses and by extended training visits.

The EMBL International Centre for Advanced Training (EICAT), coordinates training activities for scientists at many different levels. EICAT represents one of the Laboratory's core missions: the provision of advanced training.
EMBL provides an exciting environment for postdocs. World-class research labs, high-quality seminar programmes, and a vibrant international atmosphere combine to ensure that postdocs have all they need at this critical career stage.
EMBL welcomes undergraduate students of all disciplines in the natural sciences, from biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics to medicine and informatics. Undergraduates will carry out research at one of EMBL's five outstations.
EMBL provides training and support for science teachers through a variety of activities, including practical courses on bringing concepts of molecular biology into the classroom, a dedicated journal, and fostering networks for teachers and students.
Considered to be one of the most competitive - not to mention, prestigious - PhD training schemes, the EMBL International PhD Programme is committed to providing EMBL PhD students with the best starting platform for a successful career in science.
EMBL organises many courses, conferences and workshops for the life sciences. The EMBL calendar is packed with exciting events: distinguished visitor lectures, science and society symposia, practical courses, and EMBL|EMBO conference series.
Visitors come from all over the world to undertake research in collaboration with EMBL staff or to pursue their own research in the vibrant EMBL environment, benefiting from access to world-leading facilities and expertise.
Collaborative PhD programmes support and benefit from EMBL's philosophy on a case-by-case basis. These are, in general, modeled on the successful EMBL International PhD Programme, but are operated independently from EMBL.
