 | A Concept for the Spanish Light Source ALBA | |
|
 |
|
In spring 2003 the Spanish and Catalan Governments created a public
Consortium for the construction, equipment and exploitation of a
third generation synchrotron light source to be built near
Barcelona. The foundation was based upon a proposal set up at the
end of 1997 to build a 2.5 GeV storage ring with a circumference
of 250 m. In order to optimise the spectral characteristics of the
synchrotron radiation a re-design of the light source is currently
taking place. In the presentation we will give a project overview
and present the key design decisions: the energy of the storage
ring has been upgraded to 3 GeV and a new DBA lattice with an
emittance of 4 nmrad has been chosen. The circumference will be
264 m and up to 24 straight sections can be used. With the usage
of an in vacuum undulator brilliances up to 3*1019
Ph/s/mm2*mrad2*0.1%BW and flux densities up to 1.5*1017
Ph/s/mm2*0.1%BW can be reached at 15 keV. In 2010 five beam lines
have to delivered to the Spanish community. The definition of
these beam lines will take place during 2004 involving the users.
