Regine Willumeit - Small-Angle X-ray Scattering from Lipid Systems
SAXS from Lipid Systems - R. Willumeit

Regine Willumeit
GKSS, Geesthacht, Germany

Beside proteins and RNA a third class of molecules plays an important role in living systems: lipids. They form the cell membranes, build compartments in the cells and are much more than just a support for proteins in the walls of the cell. Lipids can influence the performance of membrane proteins, they can be the target of drugs ('peptide antibiotics') and due to their special biophysical properties for example cell fusion is possible.

The lecture will explain some of the biophysical properties of lipid systems which can easily be measured by SAXS.
